Dec 18, 2016- CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli said on Saturday that his party will not let the House endorse the constitution amendment bill.
Speaking at a seminar on “Constitution Amendment Proposal and the Question of Nationality” organised by All Nepal Intellectuals Association in Kathmandu on Saturday, Oli said the UML will block the bill in Parliament as it could put national interest at risk.
“None of the points in the amendment bill are worth supporting. All the points contain elements that are inimical to national interest,” said Oli. The UML chairman’s strong statement against the amendment bill comes at a time when Prime Minister Dahal has assured the agitating Madhes-based parties that it would certainly get endorsed in Parliament.
Oli rather made a pitch for holding elections at the earliest, saying failure to go for polls could push the country towards further crisis. Stating that the government has failed to work swiftly to bring poll-related laws, Oli said, “It seems the government does not want elections. That’s why it instead brought the constitution amendment bill.”
