Dec 29, 2016- Metropolitan Police Crime Division on Thursday arrested three individuals involved in organ-trafficking from Kathmandu Valley.
Acting on a tip-off, the police team arrested Binu Bahadur Timalsina aka Bikash, Prakash Basnet, and Bhim Prasad Neupane. The trio was made public amidst a press conference in Kathmandu today.
A police investigation has revealed that the culprits used to lure gullible Nepali people to travel to India with the promise of employment opportunities and stripped their organ without their knowing by making them unconscious.
Two other members of the organ trafficking ring —Amrit Gurung and Narayan Nepali—have been absconding, police said, adding that the search for them is underway.
The police investigation has found that Timalsina and Basnet used to hunt innocent people from across the country while Neupane and Gurung used to transport them to Kathmandu by offering employment opportunities.
The unwary victims were asked for blood test saying that it was mandatory to go through health check-up before providing them employment.
The investigation has found that so far the culprits have lured five people from Gorkha, Kaski, among other districts, and took them to India where their kidney was extracted without consent.
According to Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) Act, 2064 (2007), a person found guilty of extracting human organs will be punished with 10 years imprisonment and Rs200,000.
It further states, if a victim is transported to a foreign nation with the intention to exploit them, the culprits will be imprisoned for 2-5 years.
