  • Nine teenage girls create architecture out of discarded materials

Dec 29, 2016- Pop-up School of Architecture, a week-long exhibition that displays discarded natural and manmade materials for architecture, is being held from December 29, at Patan Museum courtyard.

First of its kind, the exhibition displays the work of nine teenage girls who have created unique pieces of architecture based on experimentation and imaginative improvisation. The exhibition also aims to promote appreciation of the inherent goodness of the environment.
“We aim to foster environmental awareness through the creative lens of architecture with nine cognitively creative girls, ages 12-18,” said the organizers. Talking of its inspiration, the organizers shared, “There are three sources of inspiration for the programme: Finland’s innovative Arkki School of Architecture for Children and Youth, the ‘pop-up’ phenomena currently popular in North American and European retail sales, and the scavenger architecture-as-art of Kathmandu International Art Festival 2012 by artists Janice Rahn and Michael Campbell from the University of Lethbridge.”
A final exhibition will be held on January 3, 2016, partnered with Kathmandu Triennale as an Encounter, from 10 am-3 pm.
