Jul 26, 2016- As many as 12 people were killed in floods and landslides triggered by incessant rain in Pyuthan district since Tuesday night.
Likewise, a landslide at Sutlabang, Khabang-3 claimed the lives of Dabile BK, his spouse Dowanti BK and their son.
Similarly, floods at Jhimruk River in the district have killed five people. The victims are yet to be identified.
Two people were buried in a landslide at Lung VDC-6 in the district today. The deceased are Kali Pariyar, who was running a tailoring shop at the house of local Basanta KC, and Kiran Thapa, who was also living in rent at the house of Dhwaj Bahadur Pun of the same VDC, said DSP Rathaur.
Both of them were buried after the houses were swept away by the landslide.
A woman died when a landslide hit her home at Lung VDC-6 in Pyuthan last night. The deceased has been identified Sobha Rijal.
However, other members of the family managed to escape from falling under the debris of flattened house.
Similarly, an unidentified girl of around 12 years of age was found dead beneath the Bagdula River bridge while one more body was recovered from the beneath the cemented bridge over the Jhimruk River. The third body was found under a river bridge at Khaira.
Landslide-related incidents have inflicted damages on a dozen of houses at Khawang Rajbara and Arkha VDCs. However, no human casualty from there has been reported yet.
Likewise, a body was found in the dam site of Khaira Butwal Power Company based in the Jhimruk River, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ranjit Singh Rathour said.
Water level in the river has reached the highest point in 14 years. The production of Butwal Power Company remained suspended for the past two days, following an intense velocity of the river.
Likewise, Kalika BK and Pabitra Pun have gone missing in a landslide occurred at Lung-6.
Meanwhile, around 900 families of Rajabara VDC are living in dark after floodwaters completely destroyed micro power hydro projects here, said one local Jogendra Malla. Tharakhola, Tikhachuli and Siringkhola micro hydro power plants were completely destroyed by floods.
Likewise, three micro hydro projects based in Arkha VDC were swept away in floodwaters.
Floodwaters washed away the entire physical infrastructure belonging to the Sarimakhola Micro Hydropower Project in Syaulibang VDC.
Five dead in landslides-related incidents in Gulmi

Five people lost their lives to landslides-related incidents in Gulmi in the past 24 hours.
Three of a same family were buried to death in a landslide occurred at Hastichaur VDC last night. The deceased have been identified as Kakila Darjee, 62, Tulasi Darjee, 49 and Asmita Darjee, 19.
Similarly, Gopal Rana of Bisukharka VDC-9 lost his two children-- eight-year-old son Sujan and six-year-old daughter Simana-- in a landslide, the District Police Office confirmed the tragic incidents.
One Bishnu Saru of the same locality has been injured in the incident.
The continuous landslide in the village has terrorised normal life. People have started moving to safer places.
Five killed, one missing, one injured due to flood in Jhapa
Five people were killed, one has gone missing and next one has been injured due to the flooding caused by incessant rainfall in various places of the district till today.
According to the district police office, the deceased are Lukhiram Soren, 34, of Garmani-2, Manish Bhujel, 2, of Togachhi-8, Anuj Neupane of Dhulabari who was currently living at Gauradaha, Kali Bahadur Limbu, 64, of Goldhap-8 and Tekendra Khadka, 35, of Gauradaha-5.
Similarly, injured is Dipesh Giri of Gauriganja-5 while Indian national Babulal Mandi currently living in Kumarkhod-4 is missing. The DPO has informed that as many as 2,283 people were rescued while 669 houses were still inundated by the floods in the district.
The security agencies have alerted the locals as the water level was rising in different rivers.
One swept away in Saptari
A person was swept away during a flooding at Koiladi Basaini section of the Jita river in Saptari today.
The river swollen after three days of incessant rainfall swept away Sudeep Kumar Yadav of Jatuwa in Biratnagtar Sub Metropolitan City – 13 and currently living at Hanumannagar of Yoginimai Municipality – 8, Area Police Office, Hanumannagar said.
Yadav, 23, was heading towards Koiladi Basaini area to collect money on behalf of Forward organization based at Hanumannagar where he was a worker, said DSP Dhan Bahadur Karki.
Monsoon-triggered landslides wreak havoc in Parbat

Four families have been displaced by monsoon-triggered landslides at Majhaphant VDC of northern Parbat while 27 houses are at high risk of being buried.
The mudslides taking place near the border of Lepre and Kuwapani VDCs since the past one week have so far displaced four families of Majhphant-9. The displaced families have moved to a safer place and are living in open with the dire need of assistance. So far none is in the site for their help.
Likewise, 20 families of Banskharha VDC-9 in the district are living under the constant fear of being buried as long and deep fissures are seen in the earth above the village.
Parbat's Assistant Chief District Officer Prabin Dhakal said the families facing a risk of landslide are requested to move to safer places.
District Soil Conservation Office's technician Prakash Basnet said the office was not in the position of taking immediate measures to control landslides as deep cracks have appeared in the hill above the village. A large swath of land beneath is at high risk of being hit by landslides, he said.
The District Administration Office Parbat said it was effortful to reach to the affected with immediate relief assistance materials that include tents and foodstuffs.
Setibeni bazaar inundated
Setibeni bazaar at the border of Parbat, Syangja and Gulmi has been flooded after water level in the Kaligandaki River increased, following torrential rains since Monday noon.
The river overflowed at 2:30 am following rains, inundating the human settlements, submerging shops and forcing local people to move to safety. The biggest Saligram (ammonite stone) has also been submerged.
Local people said that around 200 houses have been inundated. Police confirmed that no human casualty has been reported, but property worth thousands of rupees has been destroyed.
Meanwhile, the people displaced by the floods were forced to spend nights under the open sky, following their displacement without efforts in place to provide reliefs and rehabilitate them.
Also, the Pokhara-Baglung road and Maldhunga-Beni road have been obstructed by landslides following rains since Monday.
Siddhartha Highway obstructed due to landslide
The Butwal-Tansen, and Tansen-Ramdi road sections along the Siddhartha Highway were blocked due to landslide since early this morning.
The road sections were obstructed as the landslide debris fell at Jhumsa, Siddhababa, Charchare, Kerabari, Ramdi, Pipladanda among other places.
Due the landslide, three houses along the road sides were buried and other four houses are in high risk of landslide as well. With the disruption of the road sections, vehicles to and from Arghakhanchi, Baglung, Syangja and Pokhara were stranded.
District Traffic Police Office chief, Praveen Acharya informed that three dozers were mobilized to open the obstructed road sections.
Mudslide blocks Mechi Highway
The Phidim-Raanke section of the Mechi Highway has been blocked since last night after the deposition of rocks and debris on the road due to a landslide at Samdin, Phidim-2.
Dozens of vehicles are stranded due to the blockage. The Nepalese Army and the Armed Police Force personnel have been mobilized to open the road, the District Administration Office, Paanchrthar stated.
The district authorities stated that the road might remain obstructed throughout the day today as it will take time to bring a loader to the place for removing the landslide debris and the boulders.
Meanwhile, the Kanchanjunga Academy Higher Secondary School property and two houses are at risk of a landslide that occurred near by the Shivalaya Temple at Phidim-1 in the district headquarters. (With inputs from RSS)
