As one walked down the stairs inside Hyatt Regency, Boudha on September 16, the aroma of varieties of food items wafted tantalising one. As one reached Rox Garden, the varieties of food stalls made one want to grab a plate immediately.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">At ‘A Taste of America’ organised by the Embassy of the United States of America regional cuisines from America were served. American Chef Mark Tafoya was here with varieties of dishes from the Northeast, Pacific, Midwest, Southwest, and West parts of the US. Teaming with the chefs of Hyatt, Chef Mark presented these regional American dishes for the Capital’s food lovers.</span></div>

Be it the Barbeque Pork or Corn Bread or Caesar Salad, there were more to try, with choices for vegetarians too like Potato Salad, Vegetarian Barbeque, Red Beans Rice. Cioppino, Ham on Cheese Biscuit, Coleslaw, New York Cheese Cake, Pumpkin Pie and other regional food items were a novelty for many.</span></div>

The incident occurred on Tuesday when a large mass of soil tumbled from Krishna Veer (cliff) and 17 number Veer blocking the Chatara-Barah road section. Passengers heading from Dharan to Bhjopur, Dhankuta, Udaypur and Barah Chhetra have been left stranded due to the landslide. Barah Chhetra is a popular pilgrimage in the east. </div>

An electrical short-circuit in one of the transformers at the sub-station commenced the fire at around 3 am this morning prompting damages to the feeder and other three equipment and power cut at Doti and Achham, informed District Police Office SP Dilliraj Bista.</div>

The fire was brought under control with the help of locals, police and staffers at the NEA sub-station after three hours.</div>

There was a time when kites were flown all round the year in Kathmandu, so the story goes. Whenever people of the Valley had time to spare, they would go to the fields with their lattai and start flying their kites. They would not think much about the inconvenience the birds of the Valley were facing.</div>

Every day, a number of birds got entangled in the manjha and others suffered cuts. This ruffled their feathers (literally).</div>

A delegation of birds met the king and demanded that the people be stopped from flying kites. The king and the birds then reached a deal, which came to be known as the Treaty of Kathmandu.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The treaty says kites cannot be flown during the winter, the spring, and the summer. It can only be flown when the monsoon ends and the afternoon westerly winds starts to blow–exactly when Dashain sets in.</div>

So why do we need to continue this tradition?<br />

1.Kites send a message to Indra, the god of rains, to stop the rain as the rice fields do not need more water. Legend has it that Dashain was originally celebrated during the Nepali month of Chaitra. But because farmers were busy in the fields during Chaitra, it was decided that the festival would be celebrated after the rainy season when the farmers would be free.<br />

2.Kite flying brings prosperity to the family. Legends say that flying kites brings good fortune to the family. When you fly kites, you are welcoming the forces of good and piety, and this of course brings you good luck.<br />

3.When you fly kites, you are contacting and honoring your ancestors. When you fly kites, your ancestors in heaven see the colorful objects and feel that you are remembering them. What other sport would do that!<br />
<br />
4.Kites guide recently released souls to heaven. It is believed that the souls of people and animals that die on earth find a way towards heaven when you fly kites. The kites join the sky with the earth, something that no other object does.<br />

5.There’s not much to do during Dashain. Well, all said and done Dashain is a holiday for everyone. This includes the staffers at your favorite restaurant and your favorite shopping malls. So, flying kites is the best thing you can do during Dashain!<br />

Minister Rai said this in the meeting of the Legislature-Parliament today while responding to the questions raised by lawmakers during discussions on the topics related to the Ministry under the Appropriation Bill, 2073.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said that the service of giving prior information on disasters through mobile phones to the people in the flood and landslide-prone districts has been started.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Stating that a committee has been formed for revising the National Broadcasting Policy and the Online Media Operation Guidelines, he said the management reforms have been initiated in the different bodies under the Ministry.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
He said the required home work was being done for providing 50 percent concession to journalists for medical treatment and that the information and communication sector was to be recognised as an industry in the context of increasing investment in the sector.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The institutional capacity of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), the National News Agency would be enhanced, the film sector would be made dynamic, the postal services would be rendered more professional, a security press committee would be formed, the telephone service would be expanded and new towers would be constructed in the 240 election constituencies, Minister Rai further said.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Similarly, he informed the Parliament that the community information centres would be expanded, attention would be paid to the technical reform and quality of services of the Nepal Telecom, the 'My Call, My Share' programme under the My Contribution for the Nation scheme would be initiated and that the repair of telecommunication services would be speeded up in the earthquake-affected districts.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The Information and Communications Minister also informed that the Mass Media Policy was at a stage of being presented in the Council of Ministers and expressed the belief that it would address the problems seen in the media sector.</div>
